In a four-year program to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of various American women throughout American history by placing their images on the face of U.S. currency. The U.S. Mint has announced the next woman to be recognized will be Anna Mae Wong
Born In Los Angeles, California, in 1905 as Wong Lau-soeng. Wong became a well-known actress professionally known as Anna Mae Wong. Wong appeared in various film, radio, stage, and television programs during the length of her 42-year career.
From 2022 to 2025, the American Women Quarter program will feature 20 different women that have contributed to American History as pioneers in their respective fields. Not only would this group of women be the first women to ever grace the face of an American currency, but some of them will be the first person of color to ever do so as well; Wong will be the first Asian-American. Black Poet and accomplished storyteller, Maya Angelo, was previously announced as the first woman in the series to be recognized.
